I have just read the article above and it answered a lot of questions about tithes. I have always asked why Jesus never told us to tithe. Though He did say give unto Casear that which is Caesars and unto God that which is God.
I go to a lot of churches expecially for Christenings, Weddings and funerals. I also get invited for special events sg Gospel concerts. I have always been concerned at the number of 'collections' that can take place in one meeting. I have met pastors who demand that no sound should be heard during 'collections' ie. no coins to be dropped on plate. I have also heard such blatant lies and threats to the congregation. Everytime I ask why they tithe I am referred to Malachi but I've never understand Malachi as saying that you must give a tenth of your salary and still give for everything else the pastor / preacher asks for. leader's car repairs, love offerings. I have heard them relate to the congregation - when you bought my first car, you can't expect pastor to ride a bike, your pastor has to have the best in order to do the work of God. ut wait. Does the pastor need the best model? Does he need more than one? Do you have to pay his fare to travel all over the world. When you are in hardship yourself shouldn't the church to which you've put most of your salary or social security benefits, job seekers allowance, bills money, not feed you, clothed you, house you and your family. Latest lie. We need to set up a charity. You need to give £50,000. I felt like getting up and shouting Liar. Put then he would have told them that I was possessed and needed to be exorcised. Why don't I ever meet poor pastors in some churches. Why do they never give when their congregations are so obviously distressed? The preachers also have an answer for that. Blessed are the Meek... and you will get your reward in heaven.
