THERE'S POWER IN THE BLOOD!
Sermon by Dr James McConnell
...
I Peter 5:8-9 says – Resist the devil and he will flee from you! He will run from you – not run at you! Resist the devil! Resist him with the blood! Resist him with the word of your testimony! Resist the devil and resist him with the sword of the Spirit – say, It is written … and say to Satan – “Tell me Satan, what happened at Golgotha?” He will flee from you! It reads – Whom resist, steadfast in the faith.
Now if these verses are so, do we need to go to counselling sessions for years? I don’t mind a counselling session, but if these verses are true, then do we need to go to those sessions for years? Sister, if you’re going there for years, then you’re not born-again! There’s no way you could be born-again! Brother, it’s the same for you too! If these verses are true then we don’t need to go there! Neither (and I’m sorry if I offend) do we need to go to a Christian psychiatrist so they can listen and examine the details of your personal life and open the can of worms and pour it out at your feet so as to let you see them crawling around your feet!
I say that with respect this morning – you’re in the wrong job! There are no Christian psychiatrists in the New Testament! But do you know what was there? The Holy Ghost! The blood of the Lamb! The Wonderful Name of Jesus! Now am I wrong? “Ah, but….!” If there’s an ‘ah, but’ – Calvary’s out! There’s a flaw! It’s ridiculous and we are wasting our time for there’s power in the blood of the Lamb! Power to cleanse! Power to wash away! Listen to me, it’s the unsaved who need to go to psychiatrists – not the godly! It’s the wicked who need to visit a psychiatrist! It’s the transgressor who need to go to the psychiatrist!
Only the precious blood has power to cleanse, power to wash away, power to redeem and power to overcome. Now if my brain is right then these verses are saying that the cleansing is thorough; the washing is complete; the redemption is final and the overcomer can overcome the devil! Praise the Lord!
Brothers and sisters, I believe that we have failed to realise and appreciate what Christ accomplished at Calvary! Here’s what happened at Calvary – the price was paid; the ransom was complete and on the third day He rose (as Romans chapters 4 and 5 tells us) – He rose for our justification. We are justified!
Today we are hearing from ministers about generation curses. Brothers and sisters, dismiss it! If the blood of the Lamb washes me, than all the generation curses that I ever had is washed away! If there’s a generation curse in your life and in your family and you are washed by the blood of the Lamb, then I wouldn’t give two pence for the power of the blood! ...
The curse was lifted! Listen to me brothers and sisters, don’t heed these preachers! They are theologically wrong! They err not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God! Listen to me this morning – when Jesus enters your life every generation curse is free! Praise the Lord!
Do you know what that is like? It’s like the priest and the confessional. You’ve got to come and confess to the priest! Come to the preacher and talk about your generation curse and he knows all your business! My answer to that type of preaching is no and a thousand times no! There’s power in the blood of the Lamb! Satan do you hear me? There’s power in the blood of the Lamb! What a week he has given me! He knew I was going to preach this today and boy, I’ve never been so ill in all my life! He has attacked me and do you know why? Because there’s power in the blood of the Lamb! There’s victory, wonderful victory, in Jesus!
Note the words of I John 1:7 – The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. Note what Paul says in I Corinthians 15:3 – Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. Now what does that mean? Are you ready? He died for our past sins; He died for our present sins (but this is more wonderful); He died for our future sins! Listen, if He hasn’t died for our future sins, then there’s a flaw in Calvary! If he hasn’t died for our future sins, let’s go home and forget about all this! But He took it all in and He took the debt upon Him and He died! He has paid the price! Praise the Lord! That means our past, present and future sins – at Calvary, Christ dealt with the sin question. I notice the sensible approach by the apostle John about sin in the life of the believer, he says (and I love this) in I John 2:1-2 – My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. Now that’s God’s ideal for you and I. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, - our Lawyer, our Counsel for the defence - Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins (which means mercy-seat). He is the mercy-seat for our sins! There’s power in the blood of the Lamb!
