On Thursday 25 March, the Olympic fire was lit in Olympia, Greece, during a religious ceremony led by a high priestess of Hera, who will dedicate the Olympic Games (like in old times) to Zeus, the main 'god' of the Greek pantheon. Then this fire will be taken to key cities and nations around the world, before returning to Greece in August for the start of the Olympic Games. The main ceremonies and symbols of Athens 2004 are dedicated to idols (spiritual powers) and the dates and rituals have been carefully chosen.
Is this innocent symbolism or a demonic strategy? Dutch researcher Helene Bos of Serving the Nations wrote an in-depth report on the spiritual background of the Olympic Games - a religious festival for Zeus to strengthen his power - and why the Games have been rekindled in 1896. But it goes beyond that: based on the Bible she links Zeus to Satan and describes how the worship of Zeus (the Prince of Greece) has deeply influenced Europe and that a huge spiritual battle is going on. In this battle even the name of Europe is at stake. 'Europa' was the name of a king's daughter who was abducted and raped by Satan (in the shape of Zeus), and as a compensation' a continent was named after her. Bos is discerning between myth and spiritual reality and builds a case for how the 'altars' of Zeus still influence and are strengthened by the European Union, the Olympic Games, and the rise of neo-paganism.
But there's more to it: during a consultation of European prayer leaders last November the Lord said, "Europe (raped by Satan) is not my name for this part of the world. It is Beulah, married one, covenanted to God."

to stand with them in prayer, on 25 March, but also in the coming months and during the Olympic Games, to resist Satan's evil schemes and to pray God's destiny into the 'old continent'.
On Coronation Day, Her Majesty took a solemn oath, in public and before God, to govern the people entrusted to her care with justice and mercy, and to maintain the Laws of God in her realm. During Her Coronation, Her Majesty was anointed to govern in the Name of Christ, and given the Holy Bible as "the rule for the whole life and government of Christian princes." When she was presented with the Orb under the Cross from the Crown Jewels, she was told to remember that "The whole earth is subject to the reign of Christ our Redeemer." Since then, successive governments have caused Her Majesty to break her solemn oath. There are obvious examples, such as the Abortion Act 1967, but in truth Her Majesty's Governments have rebelled against every one of the Ten Commandments. They fell for Satan's oldest lie. "Ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." They were persuaded that man could know better than God, that man's laws would be more enlightened than God's laws. The effects of their rebellion - indeed of our national rebellion - are now being felt as human anguish and suffering in all Her Majesty's realm.
There is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away." (Hos 4:1b-3)
Britain has departed from righteous laws, and our nation has fallen into sin and misery as a consequence. Our nation has sown a wind of lawlessness and we are reaping the whirlwind of God's judgment. We are no less deserving of judgment than Sodom and Gomorrah , Canaan and Nineveh , Babylon , Persia , Greece and Rome . Each of those nations turned the righteousness of God on its head and descended into paganism and barbarism.
Each of them made their rulers unaccountable to God or man, worshipped the creature not the Creator, forgot righteous judgment, descended into immorality, oppressed the poor, destroyed their family base, institutionalised homosexuality, and killed their own children. Each of them was sent by God down the rubbish chute of history. Even Israel and Judah of old were dispossessed and over-run for the same sins. We fool ourselves if we think we shall do any better, especially as God's judgments are falling on us progressively almost week by week. And knowing the whole counsel of God in Holy Scripture, and voluntarily and solemnly promising to be a nation under God, ruled under His authority, and having received His great blessings and deliverance in times past, even used of God to spread the Gospel around the world, the United Kingdom is without excuse.
But God is gracious, and willing to forgive. He desires not the destruction of the wicked, but that they will turn from their wicked ways. "If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them." (Jer 18:8)
