Invisible city of hidden homeless' Jul 13 2004 Britain has a staggering 380,000 "hidden homeless" people - equivalent to the population of Bristol - living in hostels or sleeping on friends' floors, a new report says. Homelessness charity Crisis said the problem is costing Britain A£1.4 billion a year in lost income, housing benefit, hostel costs and lost taxes to the Treasury. The study, Hidden Homelessness: Britain's Invisible City, said the total number of people without a home of their own is set to rise to 960,000 by 2020. The number also included squatters, people living with friends or family, and those at immediate risk of eviction due to rent arrears. Crisis chief executive Shaks Ghosh said: "Hidden homelessness is a problem that can be solved. "But we need to understand the true scale of the problem so it can be tackled with the right solutions." icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200nationalnews/tm_objectid=14420208&method=full&siteid=50002&headline=-invisible-city-of-hidden-homeless--name_page.html******* The following link may be useful.
