I've been a Christian for a very long time and have fasted various things when led to for various needs. Some of the more effective and demanding fasts have been when I've fasted things like TV, radio, newspapers, secular magazines, etc. It is always in conjunction with a food item (or several). Intelectually and spiritually I have no problem justifying that it is about denial of the flesh, but am wondering if you can ad any insight. The only fasts mentioned in scripture (or in books that mention fasting) are food items only.
It would appear that I've taken something scriptural and put my own spin on it, yet it does in practice exactly what a fast is intended to do.
Any thoughts?

Dear Pat, Many thanks for your message. Obviously the ways of the flesh and the Holy Spirit are different. Ga 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. When one fasts from TV, secular items, etc it puts down the flesh. Also:- 1Co 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. It also depends on what the Lord is saying to a Christian. For example, If He says do not watch secular TV then one is wise to obey. Hope this is helpful! Every blessing, Michael. PRAYER AND FASTING NETWORK www.angelfire.com/md3/pafn777/
