I received this question from a brother in the Lord recently:-
"...in Luke 1 verse 26, an angel came to Mary in the 6th.month, if conception started then, what month would it be 9 months later? to find out when Jesus was born, how does the Jewish calender work in relation to ours, do you have any idea when the census Caesar Augustus issued was, according to Luke 2 verse 1, verse 6,while they were there doing the census the baby was born, can you provide any info. about these verses, ... S"
Any comments?
Rapha.

I just entered, " Jesus Birth " in a search engine and came up with several articles, one of which is at :- www.angelfire.com/la/prophet1/jesusbirth.htmlThe author concludes Jesus would have been born, in late September or early October. Michael.

Shane, Today January 14, 2004 in the English calendar is equivalent to Teves 20, 5764 in the Hebrew calendar see- www.chabad.org/dailystudy/default.asp?NavCal=Heb&Lang=&tDate=1/14/2004For article on "Introduction to the Jewish Calendar " consider the following:- Since Biblical times the months and years of the Jewish calendar have been established by the cycles of the moon and the sun. Torah law prescribes that the months follow closely the course of the moon, from its birth each month to the next New Moon. In addition, however, the lunar months must always align themselves with the seasons of the year, which are governed by the sun. The Month of Nissan, for instance, with its Passover holiday, must occur in the Spring and the month of Tishrei, with the harvest festival of Sukkot, must occur in the Fall. for rest of article :- www.chabad.org/generic.asp?AID=55194Hope this is useful, Michael

Hi Ya,
given that under the present dating system Jesus' birth is given as 4BC, the Jews counted their year cumulatively as the death of the kings, leaders or patriarchs. I would say that even our date/year 2004 is wrong.
Christian era begins with the birth of Jesus hence a correction of 4 years must be made, Jewish dating system depends on the end of a reign of a king (end of an era: reign/period/age of spiritual influence) to complete an addition to the date. Jesus died in AD 30. hence 26 years should be subtracted from our present date to give a closer to true calculation of our present year.
Love in Jesus Christ
Keith.
Ps. we live in the church age, the age of the Pedagogue: (Holy Spirit).
